Copyright and takedowns
MangaDen hosts work uploaded by its readers. We only want material that is free to share — public domain, openly licensed, or the uploader’s own — and we remove anything that is not as soon as we know about it.
If we are hosting your work without permission
Write to copyright@mangaden.com. We read that address and act on what arrives there.
So that we can act rather than write back asking, please include:
- Your name and signature — typing your full name in the email is enough.
- What work is being infringed, clearly enough for us to identify it.
- The address of the material on this site. A link to the series or chapter page is ideal; we cannot search for something we cannot find.
- How to reach you: an email address, and a postal address or phone number.
- A statement that you believe in good faith that this use is not authorised by you, your agent, or the law.
- A statement that the information in your notice is accurate, and — under penalty of perjury — that you are the rights holder or authorised to act for them.
We aim to answer within a working day. If the claim is clear we remove the material first and correspond afterwards.
If your upload was removed and you think that was wrong
Reply to the notice we send you, or write to copyright@mangaden.com, saying which material was removed and where it was, that you believe in good faith it was removed by mistake or misidentification, and how to contact you. Tell us plainly why you have the right to post it — a licence, or the fact that you made it. We would rather restore something than lose it.
Accounts that keep doing it
Uploading work you have no right to share is not a warning-and-a-shrug matter here. Three removals on those grounds and the account is closed, and everything it has published is withdrawn. We apply that whether or not the rights holder has asked us to.
Only removals for that reason count. A chapter filed under the wrong series, a duplicate, or a scan with missing pages is a mistake — we take those down too, and they count for nothing against you. A closed account is told why, and can reply.
Before you write
Not everything on the site is what it looks like. Our catalog is built from works whose copyright has expired and from comics published under licences that permit sharing — Pepper & Carrot, for one, is released by its author under Creative Commons. If you believe a specific chapter is yours, tell us and we will check; if you are reporting a whole series, it is worth confirming first.
Something else wrong with a page
For anything that is not a copyright claim — broken pages, a chapter on the wrong series, material that does not belong on a manga site — use the report link on the series or chapter itself. It reaches the same people faster.
