A Starlit Darkness

In early twentieth-century Japan, aspiring writer Subaru Karasuma is overwhelmed by debt and the collapse of his literary ambitions. A neighbor's frantic effort to finish a commission interrupts his lowest moment, drawing him toward Geppo Yagira, a celebrated novelist whose wealth and talent seem to belong to an entirely different world. Geppo's interest offers Subaru a possible escape, but the new direction is far from reassuring. Ambition, dependence and fascination gather around their connection as opportunity begins to look increasingly dangerous. This historical suspense story follows a struggling writer into a literary circle where recognition may carry a price he cannot yet understand.
